How to Pack Light for European Travel

This post will explain how to pack light for a European road trip. I’m a budget traveler and enjoy a challenge. That turned out to be a good thing when I learned that Norwegian has a strict 22 pound weight limit for combined weight of a carry on suitcase and a personal bag when flying with them. Yep…combined!!

The Bag Restrictions for International Flights

Norwegian LowFare Flights:
One carry-on bag, with max dimensions approximately 22 by 16 by 9
One personal item, with max dimensions of approximately 10 by 13 by 8 ” The maximum combined weight (for both) is about 22 pounds

I could have avoided the weight challenge by paying the $100 checked bag fee. I like to pack as little as possible, so I opted to take the challenge. I own many different shapes and sizes of luggage, but was lacking an extremely lightweight bag. This bag also needed to measure 22 by 16 by 9 inche (35-40 liters).

Where to find the gear

My favorite place to find travel gear is at TJ Maxx & Marshalls. I ran down to the local Marshalls to see what I could find. Bingo..they had a 22 inch super lightweight roller duffel by Lucas weighing in at 4 lbs. The best part was it was only $29.99 (original retail $120). Quite the bargain. This bag is highly rated online for design, storage, weight, and durability despite the low cost. The pattern was not my favorite as I favor solid colors, but I easily made a concession for the price and perfect fit. I already owned a tote bag that met the 10x13x8 dimensions for my personal bag.
